Movies at the Gallery

Silent film star Harold Lloyd’s classic film Safety Last comes to life on the big screen once more this Saturday at the Baton Rouge Gallery’s annual summer Movies and Music on the Lawn series. This year’s theme is Slapstickers, so you can look forward to a full run of hilarious physical comedy from the silent era. Safety Last tells the story of “The Boy” (played by Harold Lloyd) who leaves home for the city, promising to send for his sweetheart once he’s made good. When she goes to meet him before he’s succeeded, he pretends to be the manager of a department store, and death-defying hilarity ensues. The soundtrack will be provided by local band The Incense Merchants. Tickets are $5 for the public, free for gallery members. 8 p.m.
