Monsanto chief technology officer receives World Food Prize
In today’s dose of “Wait, what?” news, Robert Fraley, a chief technology officer of Monsanto, has received the World Food Prize, which is considered to be the Nobel Peace Prize for food and agriculture. Fraley and two other scientists who played important roles in creating genetically engineered crops were announced as winners in June and will speak at the organization’s Borlaug Dialogue International Symposium in Des Moines next Tuesday. Monsanto has been publicly criticized, not only for its use of chemicals on produce, but also its involvement with Agent Orange. For more details on the prize, read NPR’s story here.
