Community service is often a misnomer because, really, what community is being served when those sentenced to do the time are buffoons? Directed by David Wain—of MTV’s 1990s sketch comedy troupe The State—who also co-writes with star Paul Rudd, Role Models is a comedy of errors set in the world of a Big Buddy-type mentoring program. When Rudd and his energy drink-pushing pal played by Seann William Scott get partnered with two at-risk young boys—one a smart aleck troublemaker, the other a wizard in training—for 150 hours of male bonding, they are in for some unlikely growing pains themselves.
