Mixed media show ‘(un)familiar’ opens downtown Friday
Raina Wirta, a founding member of the local art collective Elevator Projects and an MFA candidate in LSU’s studio art program, will debut her exhibit, “(un)familiar” Friday. The exhibit shows off Wirta’s knack for combining media for a large-scale installation in an atypical location. Wirta’s work hits on a range of topics, such as identity, desire and more, with materials such as rubber, plastic, wallpaper and fabric. The opening reception kicks off Friday at 7 p.m. at Capital Area Corporate Recycling Center, 1400 Main St. The exhibit will be on view through April 26, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
Wirta’s show is one of many LSU MFA shows going on this weekend. At LSU’s Foster Hall, Lauren Hegge’s “Your Loss” exhibition and Sarah Shearer’s “Temporal Cycles” will be on display through Friday. There will also be an opening reception 6 p.m.-8 p.m. Saturday at Glassell Gallery featuring Roberta Massuch’s work, dubbed “Still Noticing.” The events are free and open to the public.
