‘Method’ acting

Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung are psychiatrists in their prime in director David Cronenberg’s critically-acclaimed drama A Dangerous Method, new on DVD this week. Viggo Mortensen reunites with the director after successfully collaborating on Eastern Promises and A Dangerous Method, as a calculating Freud, and Michael Fassbender portrays the more cavalier Jung in this film based on the true story of their relationship and the bizarre birth of modern psychoanalysis. Keira Knightley co-stars as a troubled, frantic young Russian woman and patient of Jung’s, who becomes subjected to his experimental forms of therapy and crosses dangerous boundary. Sarah Gadon and Vincent Cassel co-star. Rated R.
