Meteor madness at LASM
Next Wednesday, the LASM gets rocketing with a presentation on the Perseid geared towards the amateur sky-watchers in your family. The Perseid meteor shower is one of the year’s most incredible astronomical events, with over a hundred meteors falling through the sky per hour. Jon Elvert, director of the Pennington Planetarium, will explore in kid-friendly terms just what makes the Perseid shower so spectacular, discuss the composition of comets, and explain the difference between asteroids and meteors. A full tour of the night sky is included, and the cost is regular admission, so make sure you add it to your interplanetary itinerary. Aug. 12, 7 p.m.
