Baton Rouge's #1 lifestyle magazine since 2005

Marcel P. Black

My favorite place to go is Jackson, Miss. They are very receptive to my live show and music, and I feel at home there.

In my down time, I like to eat at the local eateries and visit the local record shops or go shopping if I have time.

Yes and no. [Yes,] because you get to do what it is you love and vibe with fans you many times never knew existed. I love traveling and meeting new people. No, because I have a wife and two small children, and when I’m gone too long, I get homesick.

My traveling fan base at this point is probably bigger than my fan base in Baton Rouge—at least it seems that way. When I go to different cities, people whom I’ve never seen before will come up to me like they know me and talk to me like we’ve been buddies all our lives. They tell me how much they feel my music and how they tell all their friends about it, which is crazy to me, because I am so not the “star.” In Baton Rouge, I often feel as if I’m trying to tell my story/our story to people in a crowded room, and no one is listening. So when I go out of town, it’s always humbling to know that others are listening to the stories and are able to relate.

Most recent gigs in: Jackson and Gulfport, Miss., Houston, Dallas, Denver and Boulder, Colo.
