Magnolia mourning
Beginning this Sunday, BREC’s Magnolia Mound Plantation will be giving hair-raising tours on French Creole mourning customs of the early 19th century. Visitors will learn how a typical French Creole family dealt with the business of death and mourning. Plus, get the story behind spooky superstitions like stopping the household clocks at the hour of a loved one’s passing, and why all the mirrors in the deceased’s house had to be covered in black crepe. Tours continue through Halloween, during regular museum hours. Visit brec.org for more information.
