Louisiana Sinfonietta celebrates 30 years
Sunday, the Louisiana Sinfonietta begins its celebratory 30th anniversary season. This chamber orchestra, under the direction of Dinos Constantinides, will present works by Vivaldi, Mozart, Hovhaness and Constantinides himself. Distinguished soloist Maria Asteriadou has been invited to perform, along with four excellent soloists associated with LSU. Asteriadou will perform music by Mozart and Constantinides. Brian Shaw and James West, LSU trumpet professors, will open the program with a concerto by Vivaldi. Espen Lilleslaten, LSU violin professor and former concertmaster of the Bergen Symphony in Norway, will perform Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 5. Finally, John Metcalf, LSU alumnus and trombone professor at Kutztown University, will perform Hovhaness’ Overture Op. 76. Asteriadou will perform the final two pieces, including Mozart’s fabulous Piano Concerto No. 12, and close the program with the world premiere of Constantinides’ Piano Concerto No. 2.
