Louisiana liquors coming soon

Locavores will soon be able to reach for locally made vodka, as a distillery out of Thibodaux has received approval from the U.S. Alcohol Tax and Trade Bureau to begin creating vodka from Louisiana long-grain rice and local Lafourche Parish sugarcane. “We have the option to make many different products and are researching what types of spirits the people in our area are interested in us producing,” says Henry Peltier, one of the owners of Donner-Peltier Distillers. They plan to first introduce their premium vodka, with a local rum soon to follow. Located just off St. Patrick Highway in Thibodaux, the facility will also feature a bar and tasting area where visitors can sample their products and tour the distillery. The 5,300-square-foot building should be completed by the beginning of August.
