‘Loud’ in here
Based on Jonathan Safran Foer’s acclaimed novel, Best Picture Oscar nominee Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close arrives this week on DVD. Young protagonist Oskar Schell, played by newcomer Thomas Horn, is the definition of precocious. Too witty and bookish by half, at the age of 12 the young Manhattanite resembles an overly reclusive college student. Oskar’s father died at the World Trade Center on 9/11 and when he discovers a mysterious vase and key in his father’s closet, he sets out on a quest across the city to discover the lock that the key will open. Oskar’s attempts to reconcile this senseless and pain-filled tragedy with the overly analytical nature of his budding brain form the dynamic tension of this unique family drama. Sandra Bullock, Viola Davis, Tom Hanks and Max von Sidow co-star. Rated PG-13.
