Lose Friends this week
How to Lose Friends and Alienate People, British writer Toby Young’s telling roman a clef about his year stint at Vanity Fair (not to be confused with the Lauren Weisberg’s similar Vogue tell-all The Devil Wears Prada) finally makes its way to the screen on the sly back of Curb Your Enthusiasm director Robert Weide. If the subject matter—outsider trying to fit in the big city—is exhausted, at least the cast is refreshing. Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz star Simon Pegg makes this is last broad comedy before being known the world-over as the new Scotty in this winter’s Star Trek relaunch. Pegg is affable with perfect timing, and he needs it in this comedy of errors that co-stars Kirsten Dunst, Megan Fox and Jeff Bridges. Rated PG-13.
