When did you leave Baton Rouge?
|
Literally or spiritually? I left Baton Rouge in 1997. However, I’m not sure if Baton Rouge has left me yet. I still feel attached in some way, even after 12 years.
What do you miss about Baton Rouge?
Good friends, the weather, Jeff (who used to be the barman at the Thirsty Tiger), shrimp étouffé, music, Mardi Gras, misbehaving myself, working at the Lackett wood lot.
What don’t you miss?
People who think that owning a gun makes them safe (I guess that’s not exclusive to Baton Rouge).
What does your new city have that you wish Baton Rouge had?
Bucharest is not the most beautiful city in Europe (that possibly is the biggest understatement I have ever written), so it’s not that easy to think of one thing. There are a lot of art galleries and museums here, which wouldn’t be a bad thing for Baton Rouge to have more of.
What’s essential when you come back here to visit?
Spend time with friends, relax and go the levee and watch the river. I think having a barbecue in the front yard is also an essential activity.
Last time you were here?
2000. I have no excuse for being away that long. I apologize.
