Local musicians ‘Drop the Needle’ on Springsteen
Once a month, Baton Rouge musicians come together to perform a classic album from start to finish. This month, an ensemble including Ben Herrington, Micah D. Blouin, Patrick Hodgkins and Shawn Roux will serve as backing band to songwriters such as Clay Parker, Rob Chidester and many more to perform Bruce Springsteen’s Nebraska. Showtime is 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Chelsea’s Cafe. Admission is $10. The album is the sixth in The Boss’ catalog and was released in 1982, two years after his hit double album The River. Unlike Springsteen’s earlier works, Nebraska is known for its uncompromising darkness and was made on a four-track recorder. Among the album’s best known songs is “Atlantic City,” “Johnny 99” and “Highway Patrolman.” Nebraska is ranked as one of the “Top 500 Albums of All-Time” by Rolling Stone and as one of the best albums of the ’80s by Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, Q and Slant Magazine.
