Lite pralines give sugar-watchdogs a Creole treat
Aunt Sally’s is being sweet to the thousands of diabetics and calorie counters across Louisiana by releasing their latest creation, Lite Pralines, 85% less sugar and 40% less calories. Before you scoff and say it’s completely sacrilegious, consider what some 225 insiders had to say: “Something about it tingles, melts on your tongue. It’s not as creamy, but still just as sweet.” “I’m pleasantly surprised.” “You can taste the pecans more because the sugar’s not so overwhelmingly sweet.” Aunt Sally’s of New Orleans has incorporated Swerve, a new all-natural sweetener developed by PhytoCeutical Formulations in Mandeville. Frank Simoncioni, CEO of Aunt Sally’s, says he’s been working on a sugar-free alternative for pralines since 1986 and nothing worked until he discovered Swerve. Look for the Creole treat to hit shelves this summer.
