Like butter
Ice-cold mojitos and frosty pints have their place, but when the air starts to bite, it’s time to cozy up with a cup of warm spirits. For something rich as a holiday dessert but not as sugary, order The Cove’s hot buttered rum and get comfortable—it’s a drink to sip slowly.
Recalling the first Caribbean rums that reached colonial America in the 1650s, the hot buttered rum at The Cove on Corporate Boulevard incorporates clove, cinnamon, clover honey, aged rum and boiling water poured over a spoonful of organic unsalted butter. Melted into the mix, the butter smooths out the sweet-on-sweet combination of honey and rum.
This particular drink ($11) is made with seven-year-old Flor de Cańa rum from Nicaragua. “An older rum stands up to the honey and spice,” says cocktail bar manager Joey Goar. The well-rounded flavors paired with heady rum and grated nutmeg along the rim take the basic idea of a toddy to a more refined level of seasonal indulgence.
