Laughter from ‘Extract’

Fans of the corporate satire Office Space have been waiting a decade for writer/director Mike Judge to once again mine the workplace for every ounce of funny there is to be found.  In the years since Office Space became a cult hit, the British and American versions of The Office have too, and then there was that little show called Arrested Development that reintroduced audiences to a grownup and dryly hysterical Jason Bateman. In Extract, Judge casts Bateman as his protagonist, the young owner of an extracting plant, whose personal and professional lives are both dangerously close to spinning out of control. From his bickering employees and his potentially unfaithful wife to a young, alluring new employee, Bateman has his hands full. SNL standout Kristin Wiig plays Bateman’s often-distant wife, and Mila Kunis stars as the plant’s tempting new temp. Of course, this being a film from the man behind Beavis and Butt-Head and King of the Hill, cameos and supporting roles are filled with a host of interesting faces including Ben Affleck, J.K. Simmons, David Koechner, and even KISS leader Gene Simmons. Rated R. (Image courtesy Miramax)
