Last toasts at Red Star

Popular music meetup and downtown hotspot Red Star (Map it!) will be closing its doors next Wednesday, according to owner Frank McMains. In a statement posted on Facebook, McMains said his decision was prompted largely by an offer to buy the building. It’s unknown at this time if the new owners will choose to keep the bar open. “The possibility that Red Star will re-open at some point in the future under different ownership is very real,” said McMains. “I would like nothing more than for Red Star to continue as one of the foundation stones in Baton Rouge’s revitalized downtown … but the eventual outcome is largely out of my hands and the timeline for such a possibility is unknown.” If you have fond memories of nights spent at this chill downtown institution, make sure it goes out with a bang—go have one last cocktail or beer and say your goodbyes.
