Knot your typical bow tie – Local designer presents a classic with a twist

Bow ties can come with a lot of baggage—or, at least, preconceived notions. They’re boring. They’re preppy. Or maybe they’re simply yesterday’s accessories.

Brennon Braud of Nola Fine Art Gallery is combining his passion for graphic art with the fashion world, and is now creating custom handmade bow ties.

“I want to take America back to an era when we dressed up,” Braud says. “There’s a different feeling you get wearing a bow tie than you do wearing a long necktie.”

A local of Denham Springs, Braud aims to be a modern haberdasher. Not only does he have a keen understanding of the craft, from size to techniques to the proper way of tying a bow tie—yes, he does include instructions with every purchase—he also allows customers to be creative.

From the cut to the fabrics—basic silk, wool, faux fur, corduroy—the choices are numerous, including a reversible option.

Braud even screen-prints artwork his clients bring in onto fabrics, and creates matching pocket squares for each.

And Braud is in on the new trend of women wearing bow ties, too.
