Kleinpeter rolls out new flavors for fall

Soon it may technically be fall, but everyone knows the summer in Louisiana is nearly year-round. As if to celebrate this fact, Kleinpeter Dairy is rolling out a selection of five new ice cream flavors just in time for the commencement of fall. The new flavors rounding out Kleinpeter’s tasty repertoire include three vanilla offerings: homemade honey pecan vanilla, French vanilla and vanilla bean—all made with local ingredients such as fresh-farmed Louisiana honey and Bergeron’s roasted pecans. The other two flavors, ginger snap and homemade bread pudding, include baked goods produced by the Edible Enterprises food incubator, which helps aspiring chefs bring their food to the masses. “We help the economy by adding innovative new flavors made with fresh ingredients and using local people to make those ingredients,” says Jeff Kleinpeter, president of Kleinpeter Farms Dairy. The flavors are versatile as well. A round of tasting by 225 staff led to the impromptu creation of the ginger snap root beer float by web editor Brandi Simmons, which was rich and tongue-tickling with the piquant mix of ginger and sassafras. The addition of the five flavors brings the total number of Kleinpeter Dairy varieties to 24—you can try them out as they hit local grocers’ freezers all over the city this week.
