Kleinpeter and Capital Creamery team up to sell ice cream in River Center
Kleinpeter Farms Dairy has teamed up with Capital Creamery to sell its ice cream at two kiosks in the Baton Rouge River Center. The deal was hatched in January, when Capital Creamery owner David Le approached Kleinpeter about providing coolers in exchange for the opportunity to sell its premium line of ice creams on the first and second levels of the River Center arena. Capital Creamery, which operates an ice cream parlor on North Boulevard downtown, opened the ice cream kiosks in the River Center last fall and was previously selling Blue Bell, the brand it carries in its store. But Kleinpeter offered a better deal, with competitive prices and the coolers. Plus, Le says, they’re a homegrown company. “We want to do business with local business as much as possible,” Le says. “We like to support the local economy.” Ice cream sales aren’t exactly brisk just yet. Last week, the kiosks went through 50 three-gallon containers, the contents of which are sold in individual scoops. But Le expects business to pick up when the U.S. Bowling Congress Open Championships kick into high gear this month, which coincides with the onset of warmer weather. —Stephanie Riegel
