Kicking it or Katrina, Rita survivors

-

For decades a game confined to schoolyards, kickball’s resurgence in Baton Rouge as an activity for adults continues apace.

Red Stick Area Kickball, the local adult kickball league, now boasts 20 teams and more players than ever. This month is a chance for newcomers to throw together a team and kick it with the regulars for a good cause.

RSAK organizers host their annual charity tournament July 12-13 at Perkins Road Park, 7122 Perkins Rd. Co-ed teams of nine to 14 players may register at the tournament for $250 or $200 in advance at brkickball.com. Games will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday. Each team receives tournament T-shirts as available and will compete for a championship trophy.

Proceeds from this year’s tournament will benefit victims of hurricanes Katrina and Rita through the Capital Area United Way. brkickball.com
