Keith Sonnier donates work to LSU Museum of Art – Renowned artist’s sculpture goes on exhibit
Keith Sonnier is a renowned Louisiana artist whose famous architectural installations and sculptures have shown in galleries across the world.
However, the LSU Museum of Art hadn’t gotten its hands on one of Sonnier’s works until now.
Sonnier donated “Tetrapod Wall,” a neon and aluminum sculpture crafted in 1988, to the museum. The piece will be temporarily on exhibit in the atrium of the Shaw Center for the Arts. An unveiling of the work and reception will be held Friday, December 6 at 6 p.m.

LSU Museum of Art Executive Director Jordana Pomeroy says in a press release that the absence of a Sonnier’s art “represented an obvious gap in the museum’s collection.”
Pomeroy added that the sculpture will be installed for “at least a year…turning a formerly empty space into a dynamic, artistic experience for all to enjoy.”
Sonnier was born in Mamou in 1941 and moved to New York around the 1960s. He currently lives in New York and is known for his architectural installations, including a thousand-meter neon installation at Munich International Airport, and a NOPSI street car stop in New Orleans.
