Judas ‘Priest’

With vampires everywhere in pop culture today, it was only a matter of time before a film looked far into the future to see what centuries of war between man and the undead might look like. This Friday, the sci-fi film Priest arrives with some answers. Based on the popular graphic novel, Paul Bettany stars as a retired warrior priest who’s exploits in the last great clash with vampires have made him a mythic figure. Living in obscurity in a dark city lorded over by the church and fearful of the vampires outside its walls, Bettany chooses to break his vows of non-violence when his niece is kidnapped by bloodsuckers. In an update of The Searchers, Bettany is joined by a trigger-happy young sheriff and a skilled warrior priestess, and the trio sets out on a quest to free his niece before she can turned into a vampire herself. Lilly Collins, Stephen Moyer, Karl Urban and Maggie Q co-star. Rated R.
