Journey to the Center of the Earth on DVD

Don’t expect a faithful, thought-provoking Jules Verne adaptation here. This Brendan Fraser-led remake is a light-hearted spinoff of the classic adventure novel. Fraser stars as a disgraced professor who is obsessed with volcanoes almost as much as he is with the disappearance of his brother. Descending hundreds of feet into the belly of a volcano his team discovers a world of flesh-eating plants, deadly geysers, and even a dinosaur—all in 3D! Parents may roll their eyes, or rub them constantly—this is in 3-D—but the kids will enjoy this pseudo-science thrill ride. Anita Briem, Josh Hutcherson and Seth Meyers co-star. Rated PG.
