I left in August 2007 for college and then moved to New York for graduate school in 2010. Last August, I settled in Austin.
The people. Baton Rouge has some of the friendliest people I’ve met. Also, as a self-proclaimed foodie, it is not surprising that I miss Louisiana cuisine.

The ongoing Louisiana politics, traffic and the hot and humid weather during the summer.
The variety of food options here, such as ramen restaurants—not the instant kind—and the value placed on exercising, primarily biking and running. I feel that just living here this past half-year has already made me more of a health nut. Music festivals such as SXSW are another plus. Also, there are more exciting and competitive-paying job opportunities here for young professionals.
During the winter holidays. I was lucky enough to pay a visit to Latte e Miele for the first time.
Visit Zea’s and order their Thai ribs. Turns out most of Texas’ ribs are actually not nearly as good as the ones back home, except for Franklin Barbecue.
