John and Joanna Haynes’ Wish Picture Shows’ Christian Street office – My Space

Hood painting. Our artwork, like our film preference, is more of a classic eclectic style. This large laundry line painting was created on a 1966 Ford truck hood. I started refurbishing an antique truck a couple years ago and decided that all extra parts such as the hood and tailgate were too important to throw away. They needed to be used as canvases.

Film reel end tables. I designed the small end tables and large glass table with 35mm motion picture reels salvaged from the old Broadmoor movie theater where Joanna and I saw our first movies as kids. Walking inside the front doors back to the storage rooms and up to the projection booth was absolutely thrilling. Old film reels and movie gear from the ’30s and ’40s was just lying around and stacked on shelves for me to rummage through for hours. This is where it all started—that, and chasing salty popcorn with a large Dr Pepper.

Piano table. We salvaged this from an Asheville, N.C., piano shop. The company took antique pianos and replaced old parts with electronic technology. I knew immediately what I wanted these parts to become, and five minutes later I was cramming them into the back of our car. My bride was ecstatic! The piano had not been cleaned in 50 years, and we were a long way from home.

Wine barrel table. Between the pair of 1930s barber chairs, this barrel came from a vineyard in Napa Valley that our company created a corporate documentary for. Everything has a story! The barber chairs are used for our clients to view the final edits of their projects. We call them the new director’s chair.

Gas pump. This was found in an antique shop in South Louisiana while filming a documentary about Hurricane Katrina. I had been looking for years for the right one with the right color and markings to create a lamp. The gas pump was designed and then transformed into a lamp at the old Perkins Road Hardware.
