The former location of Perkins Road Hardware has a new tenant: Jimmy John’s gourmet sandwiches. The Illinois-based restaurant has opened in multiple cities in Texas and throughout the southern states, but this franchise, owned by local Kyle Wilkinson, is the chain’s first Louisiana location. Wilkinson first tasted Jimmy John’s in Tuscaloosa, Ala. while in town for an LSU football game. “It was really delicious, and I saw that the staff was having fun—I just really loved the idea,” Wilkinson explains. Having managed at Plucker’s and Mellow Mushroom in Baton Rouge, Wilkinson was familiar with the Baton Rouge foodie crowd, and figured Jimmy John’s to be a good fit for the region.
