Iverstine Farms Harvest Hangout

Fall is in full swing. The evenings are getting chilly and the cold dew on the grass in the morning is a daily reminder that the oppressive heat of the summer months is starting to make it’s retreat. It’s the time of year that makes you start to think about cornfields, ghouls and ghosts, hayrides, apple cider, pumpkins and roast turkey.

Here in South Louisiana, it also means a return to weather that is more comfortable and encouraging of outdoor activities. While it is not usually in my interest to talk about the changing of seasons in this space, I am always on the lookout for music happenings that may be out of the ordinary or a bit off the beaten path. Take all of these wonderful things about autumn, add music, and combine them all into one season-encompassing community event, and you get the Iverstine Farms Harvest Hangout.

The Hangout takes place Sunday, November 18 (the Sunday before Thanksgiving) from 3pm until 7pm at Iverstine Family Farms in Kentwood. Sure, there is a drive involved, but the location provides a bounty of necesities for the perfect fall carnival; hayride farm tours, a pumpkin patch, a down-home barbeque spread prepared by some of Baton Rouge’s finest chefs, and live entertainment by terrific Baton Rouge Americana band Flatbed Honeymoon (listen: [http://flatbedhoneymoon.com/music-2/]). So yeah, it is great live music, but with a giant helping of everything quintessentially autumn on the side. The Hangout is even conveniently timed for attendees to pick up a top quality local farm raised ham or turkey or a number of other fixings for your family holiday gathering just a few days later.

I’m a firm believer that there is no greater joy in life to be outdoors in exceptional weather while surrounded by friends and family. When you round out the occasion with plenty of great music, food and drink to go around, well, that’s just a no brainer. See y’all there.

Iverstine Farms Harvest Hangout, November 18, 3-7pm. Tickets are $15 for adults (children 12 and under FREE) and are all inclusive of food and entertainment. To purchase advance tickets click here.
