Inspired by the Pelican State
The LSU Museum of Art’s Uniquely Louisiana exhibit shuts down next weekend, and this Sunday being the first Sunday of the month means you can check it out for free one last time.
The exhibit shows off works from local and national artists who weaved elements of Louisiana’s bounty of inspirational landscapes, flora and fauna into their art—be it sculpture (like the piece by Bradley Sabin at right), paintings, mixed media and even video installations. It’s everything from the inky paintings of native species by New Iberia artist Ralph Bourque to the laser-cut steel mixed media works of Baton Rouge’s Kathryn Hunter.
Really, it’s just not to be missed. Uniquely Louisiana closes Nov. 11. This Sunday, you can visit the museum downtown, as well as the Louisiana Art & Science Museum and the USS Kidd for free. Also on Sunday, LSUMOA’s curatorial assistant Lauren Barnett will discuss the history of visual arts in Louisiana as part of the Gallery Talk at 2 p.m. in the museum. Find out more about the show at lsumoa.com.
