Hot off the street
Fans of defunct food truck Ignatius Reilly’s and its chef Marcus Day will be gratified to know they can once again taste some of that gourmet street food—but with the “street” removed. Day is the new chef at the Bocage location of Latte e Miele bringing a locally sourced and savory edge to the gelateria’s lunch menu. The porchetta sandwich is a favorite. “If you want to taste love in your food, this is the place to be,” Day says.
Baton Rouge Advocates for Safe Streets has a new name—Bike Baton Rouge—and with it has come a new logo and a fresh focus on encouraging the community to support a city friendlier to bikes.
Mark Martin says Bike Baton Rouge is now assisting more than a dozen local businesses that have committed to installing bike racks at their storefronts. “Even though we have substandard facilities [for biking], people are going out of their way to use it,” he says.

New muffaletta shop 926-Muff has opened off Perkins Road at Congress Boulevard. Greg Town and daughter Leigh Anne Town start with Leidenheimer bread from New Orleans that’s ordered the day before then use the same olive mix recipe from Central Grocery piled atop Genoa salami, mortadella ham and provolone.
Two new local brews are coming soon to stores and area bars. Abita’s seasonal Spring India Pale Ale and Tin Roof’s Juke Joint IPA both roll out in March. The new Abita beer is a West Coast-style brew with an intense hoppy taste not too dissimilar from its own popular Jockamo IPA.
