Homework assignment: Reserve a table for Mother’s Day

Because no one on this planet loves you quite like your mother—and it’s the busiest day of the year for local restaurants—pick up the phone right now and make reservations for Sunday brunch. Besides, 225 Dine has done some of your homework by finding a few great picks for Mother’s Day dining.

Bistro Byronz offers a Sunday brunch menu, and the stars of the show are shrimp and potato pancakes, French toast and a twist on grits and grillades. 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

333 Bistreaux extends its menu with fried green tomatoes, shrimp & lobster bisque, a center-cut filet mignon with garlic mashed potatoes. Save room for their signature white chocolate bread pudding. Reservations accepted, not necessary. 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Flemings presents a special prefix menu for $29.95. Its delicate choices includes celery root and spring onion soup, filet mignon benedict, applewood-smoked pork chops, smoked salmon quiche, berry cobbler. Should we stop now? No way. They also have crčme brulee and walnut turtle pie. Reservations are a must. 11:30 a.m. until 9 p.m., though the special menu ends at 3 p.m.

Sullivans is ready to salute moms with a four-course meal for $32.95. Highlights of the menu include a 6-ounch filet with crawfish butter, chicken Mestizio, a Panko-crusted wahoo with ginger soy glaze and plenty of sides and desserts. Reservations accepted. 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Galatoire’s Bistro isn’t playing around with their Mother’s Day menu. Experience a half-roasted duck with a toasted pecan dirty rice and a balsamic-honey reduction and Louisiana shrimp with lump crabmeat New Orleans-style barbecue sauce over a fried eggplant. Reservations recommended. 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Oxbow brings out the Southern belle in moms by offering fried oysters with peach rémoulade, turtle soup au sherry, homemade ravioli with meatballs with old world-style red sauce, U.S. choice rib-eyes, baked deviled crabcakes and the popular eggplant shrimp and crabmeat casserole. Reservations recommended. 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Juban’s This popular Baton Rouge Creole restaurant has been honoring local moms since 1983, and Chef Terry McDonner and staff promise to please yet again. The Perkins Road eatery will be open on Mother’s Day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. offering an a la carte menu that will include some scrumptious special offerings to honor mom.
