Holiday Volunteer Opportunities

Even in the time of holiday excess, there are plenty in our community who go without. If you find yourself full of the spirit of giving this season, here are some great places to exercise it: Holiday Helpers of Baton Rouge, Inc. are having their 23rd annual Thanksgiving dinner in the River Center, and are still looking for food donations. As this free community event feeds around 1,500 people each year, that’s a lot of turkey to round up. E-mail [email protected] for info on where you can give the goods. The Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank is always looking for food donations, as well as volunteers to help pack and distribute what they take in to the needy families in the community. Give back by donating a little time and effort to those less fortunate. Call Bonnie Bordelon at 359-9940 ext. 200, or e-mail her at [email protected] to find out how you can help. It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, and the Salvation Army of Baton Rouge needs assistance with packing and distributing food and gift boxes for needy kids and families in the area. Call Rakenya McCree at 355-4483, or e-mail her at [email protected] for more info.
