Here comes the son
Actor and modern bluesman Chris Thomas King is throwing a party this week, and he’s naming after his father, legendary local musician, bar owner and radio deejay Tabby Thomas. Tabby’s Hoodoo Party, a 21st Century Blues Symposium, kicks off Sunday at the Manship Theatre and runs through Tuesday with film screenings, concerts, jam sessions and panel discussions on the state of the blues. King and his band will headline the final night, with John Mooney & Bluesiana and acclaimed Robert Mugge documentaries New Orleans Music in Exile and The Kingdom of Zydeco on the slate as well. Most events are free, but tickets for some musical performances are $20. For complete info, visit manshiptheatre.org. (Photo courtesy 21st Century Blues Records)
