Hello 225: Meet Charles Pierce

Age: 40
Occupation: Warehouse Worker/Musician/Blogger/Podcaster
Website: bigmouthpodcast.com
Twitter: @ChuckP2372 and @BigMouthPod

Your theme song: I would have to say “Super Bon Bon” by Soul Coughing. Mainly because the bass line and beat are just super groovy, and my sister used to call me “Bon Bon Head” due to the huge size of my big, bald head.

Most thought-provoking read: It’s been a while since I’ve read anything that really just mentally stimulated me. My fall back book when I need that push is A Confederacy Of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole.

Favorite blog and why: I love reading Kevin Smith’s blog. I’m a HUGE fan, and his whole Smodcast podcasting network is the reason The Me & My Big Mouth Podcast exist today. The man pulls no punches and speaks his mind regardless of the consequences, and I’d like to think I’ve been doing that with my podcast as well.

Best place to meet up with friends: Anywhere that has a really good craft beer selection, be it bottles or on tap, some good food and music that doesn’t suck.

Who inspires you the most: My incredible wife, my amazing son, my friends that have supported and encouraged me over the years. I wouldn’t be where I am today without them pushing me and telling me to never give up.

Clothing/accessory you can’t do without: I can’t do without my Chuck Taylors. Period.

The best dish you can cook yourself: I’m proud to say I make a pretty mean Deer Chili. I throw about 10 different ingredients into a cast iron pot, a can Tin Roof Perfect Tin and just let it cook for hours.

Coffee order: Coffee, milk, sugar. It’s a rare thing to find in this town. It’s right up there with Bigfoot and honest politicians.

Ice cream flavor: I’m a Ben & Jerry’s guy so I like crazy flavor combinations. My favorite would probably be Chubby Hubby. You just can’t beat chocolate covered peanut butter filled pretzels.

Who is the most famous person you’ve met? I met Michael Madsen earlier this year at the WizardWorld Comic-Con in New Orleans. I totally geeked out, but he was really cool. Fact: He did the whole ear scene in Reservoir Dogs in one take!

Ideal lunch date: Any lunch date with my wife and son is an ideal lunch date. Definitely the two most important people in my life.

Best meal from the past week: I gotta go with the BBQ Bourbon Burger over at Niche Restaurant over on Seigen Lane. My buddy Sean Rivera just became Executive Chef there and has completely redone the entire menu. The food is really good!

What is always in your fridge: Beer. Lots of beer. More than my wife would like in there. I just defend it by saying it’s all research for an upcoming podcast. So far, so good!

Favorite fictional character: As a kid it was totally Luke Skywalker. I was determined that I’d grow up and be a Jedi if it was the last thing I’d do! Today, I would say I’m a big fan of the character of Raylen Givens from the TV show Justified.

Accomplishment you are most proud of: My son. Without a doubt. I’m also very proud of keeping my podcast going and growing it from a couple of friends sitting around a poker table talking about LSU sports, comic books, movies and whatever else to what it’s become today. And now I’m going to have my own radio show on WHYR 96.9FM Baton Rouge Community Radio with co-host Jay Ducote of biteandbooze.com!

Baton Rouge needs: Baton Rouge needs to embrace who they are and quit trying to become something they’re not. We’re not New Orleans, We’re not Lafayette. WE ARE BATON ROUGE. We have our own culture, our own history. Let’s invest in these things and celebrate what a great city we have. Support your LOCAL restaurants, artist, musicians, businesses. Quit being followers and bandwagon jumpers. Let’s lead by example and make this the city that people want to come to and be a part of.
