Hellboy II: The Golden Army on DVD

Quick, what’s the cinematic equivalent of a candy store? A strong case can be made for the films of Guillermo del Toro to be the right answer. After Pan’s Labyrinth and before he jumps into The Hobbit, del Toro delivered this visual gem, a film that happens to be the antithesis of the biggest blockbuster of the year—the gritty, realistic The Dark Knight—yet somehow praise-worthy in its own right. Ron Perlman returns as the cigar-chomping, brick house “Red,” and Selma Blair as his fire-fingered gal Liz Sherman. Together, they battle invading forces from an alternate dimension in this comic book action adaptation. Rated PG-13.
