The legendary songwriter out of Tulsa, Okla., visits Baton Rouge. Leon Russell is a gospel-infused Southern pianist known for hits such as “A Song For You” and “Hummingbird.” Russell will perform at The Varsity Thursday. Eric Himan will open. Russell last recorded with Sir Elton John for the duet album The Union, which was nominated for a Grammy in 2010. In 2011, Russell was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Tickets for Thursday night’s show are $30. Doors open at 7 p.m. The show starts at 8 p.m.
