Heads up: Celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day next Monday
Baton Rouge will play host to numerous events honoring the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. next Monday. Southern University hosts an MLK Day of Service Community Project at the F.G. Clark Activity Center. Registration begins at 7 a.m., and the opening session starts at 8 a.m. Activities include painting, litter pickup, landscaping and more. Light breakfast and lunch will be served. A resource fair will conclude the event. For more information, call 803-1333. At 8 a.m., the Mount Zion Baptist Church’s parade will start at 356 East Blvd. The parade will end with a march for peach from the church to the River Center. For more information, call 383-5401. The MLK Leadership Awards start at 7 p.m. at the Baton Rouge Marriott on 5500 Hilton Ave. The awards honor community leadership that reflects the image and values of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. General admission is $40.
