Hair-raising

Jason Keller, owner of Evolve Gallery, recently worked in New Orleans on the famous locks of actress Keri Russell. The star of the acclaimed Cold War drama The Americans was in Louisiana for her role in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. Veteran Baton Rouge stylist Keller got the call to make sure Russell’s hair was camera ready for a Bon Appetit photo shoot.

Here, Keller tells 225 what the project and the star were like:

“I was nervous going in because Keri’s hair is super-curly, and she wears it straight,” Keller says. “We were on a very tight schedule, so blowing those curls straight was going to be impossible (we used a curling iron).

“She was the most down-to-earth girl you could imagine. She showed up alone, no makeup, no entourage—just super-chill. There wasn’t one moment where she made me felt like I was with a celebrity. It was more like working with a friend.

“She hung out a good while after the shoot, so we all sat down and ate all of the cold soggy food we had used as props and clowned around. After I left for the day I missed her. She was that cool.”
