Groups organizing protest at the Capitol

-

Online political watchdog groups are organizing a protest on the Capitol steps the day before the deadline for Gov. Jindal to veto the legislative pay raise.

“We really need a rally to put a face on the anger of the people because obviously it’s not penetrating. The phone calls, the faxes, the e-mails. The decision-makers were listening, but they weren’t listening,” says Steve Sabludowsky of bayoubuzz.com, who got the permit for the July 7 rally.

Other online groups helping to organize the event are LegeWatch.com and RecallPayraiseTucker.com, which filed a recall petition Wednesday against Rep. Jim Tucker.

“We’ve got people coming from Shreveport and Monroe all the way south to Lukeville. It’s very massive,” says Robert Davis of legewatch.com . “It will have a huge effect, especially if we get masses of people out there.”

Gov. Jindal’s staff and legislators are well aware of the rally, and they are invited to speak, according to Sabludowsky.

“Bottom line is the national media’s picked up on this, and that’s where it really matters because it shows Louisiana citizens are trying to take charge of their government,” Sabludowsky says. “CNN called twice about the rally specifically.”

The rally is from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. July 7, with a possible march to the Governor’s Mansion afterward.
