Got Milk?
-
See the performance that brought polarizing actor/activist Sean Penn back into Oscar’s good graces. Milk is out now on DVD and Blu-ray. As Harvey Milk, a camera store owner-turned-political activist and, eventually, a city supervisor of San Francisco in 1977 and ’78, Penn recreates the trials and the tragedy of America’s first openly gay elected official, from his 40th birthday to his murder at the hands of fellow supervisor Dan White, who in a rage also assassinated Mayor George Moscone. Directed by Good Will Hunting’s Gus Van Sant, Milk utilized archival footage of San Francisco’s Castro Street district in the 1970s and an array of A-List supporting turns from the likes of James Franco, Emile Hirsch, Diego Luna and Oscar-nominated Josh Brolin as White, to create a thorough survey of the short life of an outspoken politician in turbulent times. Rated R. (Courtesy Focus Features)
