Gordy Rush – What’s in a name?

Every name has a story behind it, and this sportscaster’s moniker happens to have the perfect ring for reporting on football. “Story goes that my father was in the Saints training room rehabbing a knee the day he found out my mother was pregnant with me. They were going to call me Trey (being the third) but then Saints’ head coach Tom Fears suggested the name Gordon,” says Rush, whose birth name is Gordon L. Rush III.

Whether by chance or by fate, the name Gordon continues to live on in the Rush family.  Passed down from generation to generation, there is just something uniquely right about it. The name not only follows a family tradition, but also fits in quite well with Gordy’s career. “I have so many people ask me if ‘Gordy Rush’ is my real name because they think it is a stage name,” he says.
