Good grub during St. Patrick’s Day

Revelers who are hungry at the St. Patrick’s Day parade Saturday will be happy to hear that a number of local restaurants will be serving specials during the festivities.

Tiger Deauxnuts’ on Jones Creek Road will relocate for the day, setting up under the I-10 overpass in the Bet-R parking lot, serving green-glazed and sprinkled donuts as well as the famous bacon and maple syrup donuts.

Frankie’s Dawg House on Cedardale Avenue will be offering a shortened version of its menu. “It’s our busiest day of the year,” general manager Brian Waters says. At the restaurant’s location close to the parade route, Waters and his crew will be offering up the naked, chili cheese, bacon-loaded, Chicago, and Deep South dogs. Frankie’s will also have a cart with chili cheese and regular dogs on Perkins Road.

Duvic’s will be serving special cocktails on the patio—including the Lucky Tart, a mix of sour apple pucker, tequila, lemon liqueur and lime; the Shamrock, with Jameson, Bailey’s and Midori lemon liqueur; and the Irish Spring, with Jameson, peach Schnapps, orange and sweet and sour.

Galatoire’s Bistro will join in the green celebration offering signature cocktails, such as Brandy Milk Punch, beer and Bloody Marys beginning at 8 a.m. The restaurant will also serve Louisiana food staples like duck and andouille gumbo, Cajun pork sandwiches and more at 10 a.m. Galatoire’s will accept take-out orders during the parade, and the dining room will be open for dinner at 5:30 p.m.

Juban’s will close its restaurant for its official parade after party which takes place in the Juban’s parking lot. The event kicks off at 7 a.m. and will feature music from David Borne, Rockin’ Dopsie and more starting at 12:30 p.m. There is an entrance fee of $10. For more information, call 413-5650.

Garden District Coffee will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 10 a.m., and 3 p.m. to 11 p.m.

In other news, though Zeeland Street Market has been open in years past during St. Paddy’s Day, the local café will not be open this Saturday.
