Ghosts arrive Friday
Something about Matthew McConaughey’s face makes him believable both as the conniving lothario and the laid-back, good ol’ boy who always manages to eek out a second chance. Ghosts of Girlfriends Past puts that face to the test in a peculiar mix of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol and, say, anything starring Reese Witherspoon or Kate Hudson. Take your pick. McConaughey plays a perpetual bachelor who suffers a psychotic breakdown at his younger brother’s wedding and has visions of his past relationships. From Mean Girls director Mark Waters, Ghosts reintroduces McConaughey to a string of women who aren’t exactly in his fan club, plus a Jacob Marley-like appearance by his uncle, played by Michael Douglas. Jennifer Garner, Lacey Chabert and Emma Stone co-star. Rated PG-13
