Get some ‘Exorcism’

Baton Rouge native Louis Herthum co-stars in The Last Exorcism, a creepy cinema verite and nearly tongue-in-cheek spin on the well-worn horror genre of demonic possession. Set in rural Louisiana, the film is out now on DVD and follows Cotton Marcus, a phony evangelical minister called to perform an exorcism on a troubled young girl. Setting out with a camera crew to document what fakery goes into claims of demon possession, it is all funny camera asides and snark from Marcus, until truly creepy things start happening that they can’t possibly explain. Herthum plays the father of Nell, the possessed girl, though he may have some dark secrets of his own. It’s a mystery until the end in this feature from director Daniel Stamm and producer Eli Roth. Ashley Bell and Patrick Fabian star. Rated R.
