George Porter Jr. at the Varsity

The Meters band member, progenitor of funk and legendary New Orleans bassist George Porter Jr. hits the Varsity Theatre stage this Friday night for a special one-night-only show. Few bass players in the history of modern New Orleans music are as storied as this musician. During the course of a career spanning more then four decades, Porter has not only made a deep impression with his work in the Meters, but he’s notched session work with artists as diverse as Paul McCartney, Jimmy Buffett, David Byrne, Patti LaBelle, Robbie Robertson, Tori Amos and many, many more.
