A recent Get Motivated seminar at the Baton Rouge River Center gave local Junior ROTC cadets from Glen Oaks High School the opportunity of a lifetime when they met barrier-breaking military and political icon Colin Powell. The retired Army general and former Secretary of State met with the young Baton Rougeans in December.

“Meeting Colin Powell was an absolute privilege,” says Alexis Webb, a JROTC sophomore. “He shared that he played a significant role in reorganizing additional JROTC units. The mission of JROTC is ‘To motivate young people to become better citizens.’ After learning about his contributions, I am even more motivated to do my very best, regardless of the task at hand.”
