Gaudet Bros. hair salon – What’s in a name?

There is a stylish little business at 1284 Perkins Road, tucked away in the picturesque Garden District, in a quaint old house that’s been converted into a small salon where Gaudet Bros.’ male and female clients can relax in comfort.

Softly playing jazz and wood floors make an inviting first impression, which is just how owner Micah Nickens likes it.

What doesn’t Gaudet Bros. have? Any brothers named Gaudet.

Nickens had a relative by that old Cajun name, so he dreamed up a fictional character to go with it—what he considered a perfect Southern gentleman. “Mr. Gaudet, to me, is what I feel the South is—he’s kind, respectable, inviting and generous,” Nickens says.

For example, a sign showing a mobile phone politely suggests, “Mr. Gaudet needs you to turn the ringer off.”

Nickens has been a professional hair stylist and barber for seven years, and he opened Gaudet Bros. earlier this year. Nickens grew up in his mother’s hair salon, so he already knew the look and feel that would best suit him.

“My aim is to make people feel at home and comfortable here,” Nickens says.

Might we see Mr. Gaudet on a line of hair care products any time soon? Nickens is coy. “Unfortunately, Mr. Gaudet is a very busy man, so he’s usually not in to comment on these things.”
