Garlic breath

Lately, I’ve run into a couple of former or current employees of Café Mediterranean (Southdowns Plaza) who rave about the care with which the food here is prepared. Consequently, I had lunch at Café Med this week, and while I think the bazillion Greek and Lebanese restaurants throughout Baton Rouge each does something interesting, I liked this place for its overall quality and different vibe. I’ve raved about its tender, simple Turkish potato salad before, but this time, I also loved the moist, grainy balls of falafel and the “small” Mediterranean salad whose crunchy leaves were lightly bathed in a dressing of mint, olive oil, lemon, garlic and topped with (too much) tender gyro and fragrant, juicy chicken shwarma. The ceilings are high, the place is dark (sit by the windows if you like more light) and there’s a boatload of food. Thumbs up.
