Gabe Daigle – Local musician and wine rep shares his most prized possessions
Twenty years ago, local guitarist and sales manager for Mystic Wine Gabe Daigle shot to stardom with a record deal and an MTV appearance for his band Becky Sharp. A long-standing gig as leader of the acclaimed rock band The Myrtles followed, and 225 recently caught up with the veteran musician and Red Star Bar promoter and asked him to show us some of his favorite things.
Alvarez Dove Acoustic. This 1970s Japanese copy of the Gibson Hummingbird was such a close copy that Gibson sued and shut down production. It cost about one fourth what the real Hummingbird did.
My wall of fame. This is a collection of photos of my favorite bands that played The Bayou when I booked that venue on Chimes Street—including Cat Power, a.k.a. Chan Marshall (pictured). Rest in peace, Bayou.

LSU helmet and program. This was my dad’s from the 1960s. To this day, he still talks about how amazing it felt to run out into Tiger Stadium.
Keystone 8mm camera. This belonged to my grandmother. I can only imagine what a tool like this meant to her, being hearing-impaired.
“Baby I Don’t Know” by Bonnie Fussell. This is my father-in-law’s hit single from 1964. It’s nice having another musician in the family.
Vinyl records. Many of these belonged to my parents, some were abandoned in thrift stores and others are my own, including Electric Light Orchestra’s Out of the Blue (pictured). If the Beatles had survived through the disco era, they would have sounded like this. Each record represents a part of my musical history, a soundtrack to life.
